Vinod Kumar, a postal assistant stationed at the Nanpara sub-post office, had asked Azad Khan, an ABPM posted at Puraina Bhavani Baksh, for a bribe of Rs. 2 lakh to quash a chargesheet. Azad Khan had filed a complaint with the CBI a week ago, prompting an investigation.
On Thursday, the CBI team arrived in Nanpara. During the operation, Azad Khan arranged a meeting with Vinod Kumar to hand over the bribe money in the afternoon. As Vinod Kumar was accepting Rs. 20,000 at a local paan stall, the CBI team caught him red-handed. The team then took him into custody for questioning, which continued for nearly five hours. As of the time of writing, the CBI’s investigation is still ongoing.
