Reimbursement of CEA and Hostel Subsidy: New Updates in Accordance with NEP 2020
The Government of India, through the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, has issued an important update regarding the reimbursement of Children Education Allowance (CEA) and Hostel Subsidy. This modification aligns with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aiming to enhance the support provided to government employees for their children’s education.
Key Details of the Office Memorandum
Office Memorandum Number: A-27012/01/2023-Pers. Policy(Allowance)
Date Issued: 14th March 2024
Issued By: Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel & Training
Main Changes Implemented
- Eligibility Extension for CEA and Hostel Subsidy:
- The reimbursement of CEA and Hostel Subsidy is now extended to children studying from three classes before class one up to the 12th standard, irrespective of the class nomenclature.
- This benefit also includes the initial two years of a diploma or certificate course from Polytechnic/ITI/Engineering Colleges if the course is pursued after the child passes the 10th standard.
- It is important to note that if CEA/Hostel Subsidy has been granted for 11th and 12th standards, it will not be admissible again for the initial two years of a diploma or certificate course.
- One-time Relaxation:
- A one-time relaxation has been provided for the reimbursement of CEA/Hostel Subsidy for those government employees whose children have had to repeat an additional class due to the implementation of the NEP 2020. This ensures that the educational progress of children is supported despite the changes brought by the new policy.
